SaferMe requires every account to be connected to a unique email address.
We appreciate that some workers will not have an employee or personal email they would like to use. In this case, please follow the steps below to create a unique account for your employees without email addresses.
Admins can invite multiple unique users to an account using Gmail alias emails, also known as plus addressing.
What is a Gmail Alias?
Gmail allows you to add a “+” and extra text to your email address. Emails sent to these aliases still arrive in the same inbox, but the app will treat each alias as a separate, unique email address.
Example:
If your email is:
saferme@gmail.com
You can create aliases such as:
saferme+1@gmail.com
saferme+admin@gmail.com
saferme+manager1@gmail.com
Each of these will:
Be recognised as a different user by the app
Deliver email invites to saferme@gmail.com
How to Invite a User Using a Gmail Alias
Go to the Members page of the web app
Select Add Members
-
Enter the alias email address using the + format
Example: companyname+1@gmail.com
Enter the worker's name
Assign the required role
6. Save your changes to send the invitation
The invite will be sent to the main inbox. Log out of your existing SaferMe account before accepting the invite to set-up the new user.
Important Notes
Gmail aliases only work with Gmail addresses (e.g. @gmail.com or Google Workspace accounts).
Other email providers may not support plus addressing
Each alias counts as a separate user within the app
Troubleshooting
I didn’t receive the invite email
Check your spam or promotions folder
Confirm the alias was typed correctly
Remember that all aliases still go to the main Gmail inbox
The app says the user already exists
Ensure you’re using a new alias that hasn’t already been invited
Even a small change after the + counts as a new user
